Despite the fact that same-sex marriage has been legal in the state of Massachusetts since 2004, iconic Jet Magazine has announced the wedding of Ravi Perry, an assistant political science professor and Paris Prince, a licensed real estate broker and compliance officer, which took place in August in Worchester, Massachusetts.
Jet Magazine is one of (if not) the largest and oldest magazine in the country tailored to and published by black people. It has a circulation of nearly seven million people. First published in 1951 and billed as ""The Weekly Negro News Magazine," Jet covers culture, politics, society, sports and entertainment among its many diverse angles.
Last year, the magazine featured its first lesbian couple, Nyema Vernon and Tenika Jackson. The larger question is why did it take the magazine, which is based out of Dorcester, Massachusettes no less, almost a decade to feature a same-sex couple among its pages? I can't believe it's because Ravi and Paris (and Nyema and Tenika) are the first black same-sex couple to get married.

Awesome that you reported on this. I wondered how long it would take Jet magazine to come around.

JET and EBONY are based in CHICAGO. Everyone in media knows this.
This is NOT the magazine's first same sex couple. There was a same-sex couple featured at least five or six years ago. And there was coverage when California briefly allowed couples to marry.
BTW: There has been plenty of coverage of LGBT issues in JET and EBONY, only not limited to marriage. JET is photo driven, btw, and seeing that the majority of marriage equality states were in New England until recent weeks and months, it's no surprise that there were few photos of Black couples getting married.
Have you heard of Keith Boykin, who was at the White House and is now a MSNBC contributor? Have you heard of Marclamont Hill, who is a professor and hosts Huff Post Live? Have you heard of Rod at Rod 2.0? Rod has produced for ABC and NBC News, had cover stories at The Advocate and regularly writes for EBONY (which owns JET) and is talking head on one of the networks. Rod had much more on this and has been reporting on Ravi Perry for a few years, Ravi heads the local NAACP branch and made history with that election.
I know you looove black men but maybe you should stick to porn and let intelligent (and sexy!) black men such as Boykin, Marclamont Hill, Rod and others discuss more serious topics. Just a thought
