Gay Bottoms Threaten Iranian Military Readiness

The exemption is called 'Article 33, Paragraph 8' which explains in no uncertain terms that homosexuals and transgenders are a threat to the moral values of the Iranian military. And in a rarely covered story, Iranian officials are quietly allowing these men to leave the service knowing full well that many of them to leave the country as well.

From the Daily Beast:

"...[F]or at least 15 years, the regime has quietly been offering gay Iranians exemptions from mandatory military service. Those exemptions, however, often come with costs, and gay-rights activists say that a considerable number of male homosexuals are fleeing Iran rather than living with the stigma attached to being gay in the Islamic Republic. According to the Iranian Railroad for Queer Refugees (IRQR), a Toronto-based human-rights group, 118 Iranian queer asylum seekers requested its help last year—the highest number of cases the organization has ever seen in one year."

Familiar still are the dehumanizing questions a conscript faces by a team of "experts," doctors, psychologists and the like, who believe that, for example, somehow being a bottom is more of a threat to military values than being in top in the existential ladder of male virility. And virility is what Iranian generals seek in their killing machines.

But it wasn't too long ago when many of the same, medieval beliefs held court in our military thinking and which prevented men and women from enlisted in our very own killing machines.

And not unlike Iran, the consequences are equally dire for those in the closet who remain. Many former military men from Iran report of severe harassment - up to and including rape - by others serving in their units who sense they are 'different' from the rest.

Lesbian Kiss During Olympics Opening Sparks Outrage

Calling it "leftie multi-cultural crap," British-born Danny Boyle's Olympics opening film - featuring an homage to issues dear to the Left - has sparked outrage among British conservatives. Aidan Burley, a felled aide to the Transport Minister, added, ""The most leftie opening ceremony I have ever seen -- more than Beijing, the capital of a communist state! Welfare tribute next?"

Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservative party was quick to react. ""The opening ceremony has been a great showcase for this country. It's more proof Britain can deliver."

Burley, who sacked after it was discovered he attended a Nazi-themed stag party, was just one of millions of people who watched the opening ceremonial clip by the famous director which featured the now-famous lesbian kiss, the first on British television, from the long-running soap opera Brookside.

Boyle, whose film Slumdog Millionaire swept the Academy Awards in 2009, opined, "The sensibility of the show is very personal," he said. "A group of us have created it, but we had no agenda other than... values that we feel are true. Not everybody will love that but people will be able to recognise as being honest and truthful really. I felt that very strongly. There is no b(expletive) in it, and there is no point-making either."

Ironically, the short film was shown in many countries where homosexuality is punished up to and including death.

In The Life Media and The Black AIDS Institute Journalist Join Forces For HIV AND AIDS IN 2012

In The Life Media, producer of some of the most honored and influential lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) journalism on public television and online, has partnered with The Black AIDS Institute Journalist Delegation to present web-exclusive coverage of the state of HIV and AIDS in 2012.

Trade Your Homosexuality For a Free Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich

If you're hungry and you're questioning your sexuality, the makers of a new Chick-fil-A parody site have some good news: a coupon to trade one for the other. The creators of the Chick-fil-A Foundation, a mock site created to trade on the ever-expanding scope of the now-infamous fast-food restaurants troubles, offers everything from a realistic-looking coupon to a Twitter account. 

Reporting on Mashable.com:

"The Chick-fil-A Foundation is a website cleverly designed to mimic the real Chick-fil-A site, except it’s full of satirical content that defends Cathy’s comments and calls on gay people to renounce their homosexuality. The “Foundation’s” staff includes “John,” “Robert” and “Harvey the Cow” — likely a reference to Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California (the joke has numerous layers, as the real Chick-fil-A uses cows in its advertising campaigns)."

Included in this post is a video clip of a mock TV appearance (the payoff comes at the end), a mock coupon and some tweets from their mock twitter account.

His name is Erick Lewis but he also goes by the name Edik. He's this smoking hot Russian guy his did a solo for Bad Puppy but is known largely for his straight performances.

No Porn on The Plane!

In the storied tradition of negative sloganeering - 'No sex in the champagne room,' 'No smoking. S-M-O-K-I-N-G. No smoking!'- Morality in Media is pushing a 'No Porn on The Plane' campaign to combat the growing comfortability some people are beginning to demonstrate in public spaces about watching and playing adult entertainment.

Several states, Tennessee, Louisiana and Virginia among them, have already passed laws that ban any content that may distract, offend or be viewed by others either on the road or in public spaces. San Francisco has taken to covering their computers in public libraries with plastic shells in an effort to strike a balance between individual liberties and those rights of others.

"Others fiercely defend the rights of people to watch whatever they want in public. When Ms. Hawkins, from Morality in Media, posted a YouTube video describing her encounter on Delta, she was bombarded with angry e-mails from people telling her to mind her own business. “People said, ‘Just look away,’ ” she recalled. “Their argument is that people can do what they want. This is America.”

So do we? Is it okay to watch 'Cinnacum Buns' in front of minors or others who find this sort of thing objectionable? One thing is certain, it is an issue that isn't going away anytime soon.

Thank God Someone Is Standing Up For Chick-fil-A's Dan Cathy

Finally! One of our own, the always trenchant logician Glenn Greenwald, is taking to task the inane (and dangerous) support being given to the likes of Rahm Emmanual, Mayor of Chicago, and Thomas Menino, Mayor of Boston for attempting to block business licenses for Chick-fil-A.

The president of the once-popular fast food chain, Dan Cathy, whose views on who constitutes a "family" unit are now well known, has not broken any laws (as far as we know), has not engaged in unfair hiring practices and has not refused to serve gay patrons. So why is Mr. Cathy being threatened?

Because Rahm and others don't like what he believes in:

"If you support what Emanuel is doing here, then you should be equally supportive of a Mayor in Texas or a Governor in Idaho who blocks businesses from opening if they are run by those who support same-sex marriage — or who oppose American wars, or who support reproductive rights, or who favor single-payer health care, or which donates to LGBT groups and Planned Parenthood, on the ground that such views are offensive to Christian or conservative residents. You can’t cheer when political officials punish the expression of views you dislike and then expect to be taken seriously when you wrap yourself in the banner of free speech in order to protest state punishment of views you like and share. Free speech rights means that government officials are barred from creating lists of approved and disapproved political ideas and then using the power of the state to enforce those preferences."

Sorry, but freedom of speech means freedom of speech for everyone and not just those you agree with. And I won't buy into the what-if-we-substituted-blacks-for-gays-line-of-reasoning. It still doesn't hold water.
