Dated or dateless, if you have some time and will be in the New York City area on Tuesday, February 14, be sure to stop by Industry Bar located on 355 W. 52nd at 10PM for the 'Invincible' project fundraiser. Sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and XELLE, quite possibly the first and only all-girl pop band that features two women and a drag queen, the event hopes to raise awareness and money towards combating the pervasive and destructive effects of bullying.
And the statics, according to GLSEN, are grim:
*Nearly 9 out of 10 GLBT students experience harassment in school every year
*60% of LGBT students feel unsafe at school because of their sexual orientation
*1 in 3 LGBT students skip school every month because of feeling unsafe
What can you do? In a word? Drink. By patronizing Inudstry, you will insure that much-needed funds fill the coffers of GLSEN and aid in their outreach efforts. You'll also be entertained - drunk or otherwise - by the night's MCs: Jiggly Caliente and Joshua McKinley, two of reality show's brightest lights.
Also, you'll hear XELLE's latest pop mantra, "Invincible," the third single off their infectious new ablum, "Queen."
So, go. Drink. Help. Have fun.
